HBYC Youth Keelboat Squad

The Advanced Squad is aimed at 18-29 year old participants, who have existing keelboat sailing experience and are ready to participate in or lead a crew at inter club Youth Sailing events.

This Program will include:

• Rules and Tactics: Expand on existing knowledge of the Racing Rules of Sailing and effective tactical choices for a variety of races.
• Keelboat Handling: Advanced keelboat handling skills for improved performance, and handling the boat unassisted.
• Team Dynamics and Culture: Build core teamwork skills and learn effective collaboration for campaign success.
• Regatta Experience: Participate in inter club and state level regattas, along with club practice events.
• Boat Maintenance: Learn the maintenance and preparation techniques for J70s

The Intermediate Squad is targeted at 14-18 year old participants, turning them into competitive, well-rounded sailors. Perfect for those looking to take their sailing to the next level or if transitioning from junior OTB classes. 

The focus of this program is:

• Rules: Introduction to the Racing Rules of Sailing, with a focus on When Boats Meet
• Keelboat Handling: Enable participants to independently handle a keelboat in expected race conditions, including under spinnaker, and dock a keelboat under instruction.

The Social Squad is for those who still want to improve upon existing sailing skills, but are currently not interested in racing. These Sessions will be casual and fun, and will include many of the aspects of the intermediate squad session, without tying these skills into a racing context.
